Bringing A New Dog Home cannot be a haphazard project

Pet owners today need to have well mannered dogs, who have learned their do’s and don’t for existing in our urban society. But Bringing A New Dog Home cannot be a haphazard project.

This will make the task seem impossible. You don’t want to stress yourself and your animal with methods that actually damage your pet’s confidence and frustrate you. As a professional dog trainer, I know that to be successful, you must have a plan you have thought out, and stick to it.

Any plan has to have a goal and then the means to reach that goal. You have to decide how extensive you want your dog’s education to be. Are you going for basic manners, or do you want to teach him to do tricks and answer multiple commands? Next, you need to select the means to reach your end.

I strongly recommend against using any physical force against your dog such as yanking his collar or spanking him with the newspaper. This treatment will not build up the trust and confidence your pet needs in order to learn from you.

The best way to get your dog’s attention and make him a successful learner is positive reinforcement-reward him for good conduct, give no recognition or reward to bad conduct.

I have found in my experience that having a plan will drastically shorten the time required to train. You must throughout all training decide this is going to be fun, and not a contest.

However successful a training session is as far as what is accomplished, patience and consistency on your part will make it a fun outing for the both of you and will make for a happier, more teachable, and well behaved pet
