Plan Ahead and Save With Home Renters Insurance
Home owner’s insurance protects the house you live in from floods, fire, and natural disasters, but does not protect or cover its contents. Just because your landlord carries home owner’s insurance, don’t think that you are safe. As a renter you must protect your family’s possessions yourself and many leases require that you carry home renters insurance. For such a low investment each month, you will find that it is well worth your hard-earned money to keep from replacing these items yourself.
Once you look at every item with a critical eye you will be amazed at how much your things are actually worth. It is best to make a detailed list of all the items you own, even those not of great value ahead of time, before disaster occurs and you must make use of your home renters insurance. Then, you will be prepared when it does strike and you’ll have an accurate description and estimated value to give the insurance representative during your claim process. This is much better than the alternative, which means trying to remember everything that you had while grieving the loss of it all and possibly your home or a family member, too. If this were to happen you would probably not get the real worth of your items because it would be impossible to remember them all. It also reduces your credibility of the legitimacy of the items in the insurer’s eyes.
Just think of how you would feel if you were to lose everything and how would you live without them? You would have to replace them out of pocket and all of this right when you are the weakest and most run down. If you had home renters insurance and forgot to take inventory ahead of time, this would be the wrong time to be worrying about these things. Taking inventory ahead of time frees you up to deal with more important matters at hand, such as comforting your family, working through the sadness and shock, and finding a new place to live. This is yet another situation where it pays to plan ahead.
