Choosing the best cell phone plan
There’s a lot to consider when getting a new cellphone, namely which is the best cell phone plan for you and your family. Unfortunately, with a myriad of possible choices it’s not always easy to pick out the best one. So, here are a few tips.
First, make sure you purchase enough minutes on your family plan to cover your family in a worst-case scenario. It’s much cheaper to buy a couple hundred minutes ahead of time versus paying $.20 a minute for the 200 minutes you went over (that’s over a $100!). Also rollover minutes are important – especially if you’re living on the ragged edge of what’s available in your cell phone plan.
Text messaging is important, especially if you have kids. You don’t want to go over on your limit if you can help it. Many plans, like AT&T for example, currently offer unlimited text messaging for $15 a month. Compare that to a flat cost of $.20 per text message if you don’t have that in your plan. By sending and receiving 100 messages each, that’ll cost you $40 right there. Talk about having a reason to yell at your kids!
As you can see, it’s very costly to miscalculate your useage requirements. This is where the cellphone companies really make their money - and you don’t want to be that kind of customer I promise. Of course, if you have any doubts as to what’s right for you – ask your local carrier representative what’s available. Remember though, it’s their job to make as much money off of you as possible so be sure to ask all the important questions.
In the end, the only way you can possibly be sure what you’ll be paying is going with a prepaid plan, as that’ll be fixed from month to month. Unfortunately, they’re also the most expensive.
