Treating Bacterial Vaginosis

Bacterial Vaginosis if treated by a medical doctor will involve antibiotics and vaginal creams. A common drug used is metrodinazole, which is the generic name and comes in  gel or pill forms. Clindamycin is another generic drug which is prescribes if a woman experiences side effects from metrodinazole.

Some of the side effects of taking metrodinazole are stomach cramps, diarrhea, headaches, dizziness, nausea, appetite loss, vomiting, dry mouth, a metallic taste in your mouth, dark urine, a new kind of discharge not seen before, sore throat, mood swings, fever, rashes, pain, or convulsions. Any of these should prompt you to seek medical attention from your doctor as soon as possible.

Antibiotics and drugs are expensive, so if you are not able to cover the cost of the medicines, and your insurance won’t, you could try home remedies to cure bacterial vaginosis. Try mixing a solution of boric acid and water. Apply to your vagina using a douching bottle. Another home remedy would be to sue apple cider vinegar with warm water to re-establish proper hormonal balance and pH levels. It will also flush out the excess bacteria.

You could also try yoghurt, but it will have to be the plain, unflavored yoghurt. You can eat it or apply it directly into your vagina using a tampon soaked with the yoghurt. Leave it for several hours or even overnight, if you can. It’s active ingredient, lactobacilli will restore the proper acidic balance in your vagina.

Treating Bacterial Vaginosis can be very effective but will never really cure BV. It can come back if you are not careful with hygiene and who you have marital relations with.
